NYC Hookup Scene: The History
It is quite adventurous to hook up in the Big Apple. Choosing the hookup spot is important to having fun. In the past, it was the same as it is now. In New York City, there are quite a few places that have seen some good times in the past and have been known to be popular, but did not make it to these current times because they have closed down. When you think about the history of NYC hookup bars and clubs for singles, you would consider the L'Amour club with its underground bands in the initial stages of opening up and then in the mid 80s, it became two clubs, branching out to open the clubs in Long Island and Queens. The club in Queens was both a dance club and a place where freestyling of musical acts was the norm. The one in Long Island closed its doors in 2004, shortly after opening. Another club opened in Staten Island in 2006, but closed in 2009. Centro Fly was pretty much for an older crown that had become tired of the dance clubs that were hard core such as Vinyl and Area. The club sold food and accommodated a crowd that loved its house music. It has some good DJ's and an innovative sound system to blast the place. If memory serves right, Centro Fly served a sumptuous tuna meal all night. The club closed down eventually and the Duvet club was its replacement, but it too closed soon after opening. The Lotus club was located at the corner of 9th Avenue and 14th Street ad was the highlight of NYC nightlife back in the day. If you wanted to meet singles, have a conversation and hook up later that night, then this was the place to be. You would enjoy the dancing and the wild ambience. In 2008, new owners took over the place and renamed it. Luke and Leroys hosted some famous parties. This club was a hangout for the single crowd. The DJ was amazingly eclectic. The place closed in 2007 as it could no longer attract the same crowd or a new crowd. Studio B was a dance club that featured late night parties for singles. It was located in Brooklyn, NY. It was an alternative for those who didn't want to go as far as Manhattan to party. In its attempt to obtain an expansion on the rooftop and the fight they got from the community to do so, the club finally closed its doors. In 2001, Bungalow 8 was opened on West 27th Street in a warehouse. It was he hot spot then for singles to hook up. However, after a few years came more similar competition and the level of success began to wane. In 2010, it eventually closed. NYC Hookup Bars for singles can be quite the fun, but after a while as more bars and clubs open up, it takes the sting out of it and people go club or bar hopping to find better hookups.
